The soap opera that is the life of Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel continues today as the second-year man out of Texas A&M could be in hot water again.
According to Scott Boeck of USA Today, Manziel was seen drinking and gambling in Las Vegas last night. Granted, Manziel has been ruled out for today’s season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers after suffering a concussion in practice, but the problem is that he posted a picture of himself with his dog on Instagram and tagged Ohio as his location.
Given how Manziel has already gotten in trouble with the Browns for partying this season after spending some of the offseason in rehab and already got himself benched for lying about it, one can see the problem here.
But let’s examine the other side of the coin. The Browns are 3-12 on the year, well out of the playoff picture, and Manziel is injured. Moreover, GM Ray Farmer and coach Mike Pettine, the two who have been particularly hard on the young quarterback over his off-field activities, are likely headed out the door. Simply put, though the aesthetics of the situation aren’t pretty, so what if Manziel is using his own injury down-time to do what he damn well pleases? What’s he supposed to do, just sit around?
Look, I get it. Manziel’s lifestyle is a cause for concern, but he has still taken steps forward as a quarterback this year. So long as his partying doesn’t affect his on-field performance, the Browns organization should just leave him be.
