Miami dismisses longtime OL coach Art Kehoe

New Miami Hurricanes head coach Mark Richt continues to become a polarizing figure in Coral Gables, as it is being reported by The Miami Herald that longtime offensive line coach Art Kehoe has been dismissed from his position and replaced by Stacy Searels, who held the same position at Virginia Tech.

This is definitely a move that strikes the hearts of many, especially since Kehoe has been with the program the past 31 years as either a player or a coach. He has five championship rings to his name and was offered a position with the university helping with fundraising, but turned it down.

It’s only natural that Richt, a Miami alum himself, would want to start with a fully clean slate and put together his own coaching staff, but Kehoe is basically a Miami institution. On top of that, beloved strength coach Andreu Swasey was let go earlier this week to alumni outcry, so just why Richt wouldn’t keep a “Miami guy” in Kehoe is puzzling.

Either way, given Richt’s success at Georgia, fans will simply have to put their good faith in his judgment, at least for now.
