Niners expected to keep Baalke, fire Jim Tomsula

The San Francisco 49ers are expected to retain GM Trent Baalke and fire coach Jim Tomsula, according to Mike Florio of NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk.

Already a franchise in disarray, San Francisco has gone 4-11 this year and has looked nothing but lost under Tomsula’s watch. Quarterback Colin Kaepernick took a huge step back and marquee free agent signee Torrey Smith has been a bust, catching just 28 passes for 602 yards and four touchdowns.

What makes this even more embarrassing for the organization is that Tomsula was hand-picked by Baalke to replace Jim Harbaugh. Previously, he was the team’s defensive line coach.

And if Tomsula is indeed fired, team owner Jed York could face even more scrutiny from fans for his failure to bring back the Bay Area’s former championship glory. From letting Baalke essentially force out Harbaugh, the man who turned the franchise around, to letting a subpar QB in Kaepernick get chance after chance after chance, changes need to be made and maybe not just in the coaching department.
