UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler has been one of the most dominant fighters in the sport of MMA the last two years and his dominance continued when he defeated Carlos Condit at UFC 195 last Saturday in a fight that is already being called the fight of the year.
Following the fight that went to a split decision, UFC President Dana White had some pretty cool comments about Lawler, who won the title from Johny Hendricks in December 2014. White talked about how it’s almost impossible for Lawler to have a boring fight.
“He’s our Evander Holyfield. He’s never in a boring fight,” White said at the post fight press conference. “When he gets hurt he continues to go toe-to-toe. Robbie reminds me, he’s our Evander Holyfield and I respect so much when you’re in a fight like this and you have to come out in that fifth round and do what Robbie did and he did it. Great fight.”
To be compared to Holyfield, one of the greatest boxers in the history of the sport, is a huge honor. Lawler is one of the most entertaining fighters in the UFC as five of his eight fights in the UFC have gone to a decision and he is 7-1 since joining the company in 2013.
