Todd Bowles declares Ryan Fitzpatrick 2016 starter, if he comes back

On Monday New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles declared Ryan Fitzpatrick the starting quarterback for 2016 if he returns to the team, according to New York Daily News’ Manish Mehta.

Despite losing to the Bills in a win-and-get-in game for the playoffs, Fitzpatrick has a remarkable year.

Even more so when you consider that he was not supposed to be the starter to begin the year. Fitzpatrick was inserted as the starter after former no. 1 Geno Smith suffered a broken jaw after being punched by IK Enemkpali in the preseason.

Nonetheless, Fitzpatrick went out and set a Jets record with 31 touchdown passes and led the team to a 10-6 recrod in Bowles’ first season coaching the team.
