Though we all love to rip on Penn State quarterback and soon-to-be NFL draftee Christian Hackenberg for his seemingly subpar performance on the field, he may be better than meets the eye.
Per a post to Reddit, Hackenberg has thrown for 8,457 yards, 38 touchdowns and 31 interceptions. That’s more than any of the other Top 10 quarterbacks in his recruiting class, who have thrown for a combined 6,649 yards with 35 touchdowns and 34 interceptions.
Now, let’s name some of these other quarterbacks from the recruiting class of 2013. Jeremy Johnson (Auburn), Shane Morris (Michigan), Brice Ramsey (Georgia), Cooper Bateman, the list goes on.
Sure, Hackenberg got to play immediately while some of these names got stuck on the bench, redshirted or just haven’t received the opportunity to play extended time yet, but the numbers don’t lie.
Say what you want about Hackenberg and how he definitely underachieved at Penn State (which he did), but his numbers at least suggest someone who can be a respectable enough game manager if given a stable receiving corps and strong offensive line.
