The Ole Miss Rebels have been one of the more surprising teams in the country this year as they are currently sitting at 10-3. However, for a long time, the Rebels didn’t have an arena that fit the bill of a top-tier SEC program.
Now, they do.
The school has been working on a new arena since 2011 and they will finally debut it on Thursday night. According to College Basketball Talk, the Rebels will open The Pavilion when they host the Alabama Crimson Tide.
Head coach Andy Kennedy knows that this new arena, which holds 9,500 with 1,700 premium seats, is going to be big for their program.
“It’s a real game-changer for our program,” Kennedy said.
The Rebels were on a roll before running into the buzzsaw that is the Kentucky Wildcats last week. They had won seven straight games, including a big road win against Memphis, before falling to the Wildcats in a beatdown last week.
Despite that, the Rebels hope to turn things around these next few months and make a run at their third NCAA Tournament appearance in the last four years.
