Report: David Shaw will not interview for 49ers’ HC position

Stanford head coach David Shaw has been one of the most successful coaches in college football the last five seasons as he has led the Cardinal to three Rose Bowl appearances in his time with the team. With his connections to the NFL, it makes sense that his name has come up just about every year in terms of head coaching positions in the league.

The San Francisco 49ers need a new head coach after firing Jim Tomsula and with the success former Stanford head coach Jim Harbaugh brought them, they are looking to the Cardinal once again. Bleacher Report stated that Shaw would be interviewing for the head coaching job, but one source close to the team has denied those reports.

Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury reports that a source told him Shaw wasn’t going to interview with anyone else and his position is holding strong with the Cardinal.

“Stanford coach David Shaw won’t interview with the 49ers for their coaching vacancy, according to a source. Shaw has no plans to interview with the 49ers, the source said.”

Shaw spent the first ten years of his career in the NFL as an assistant with teams around the league. His name has come up multiple times in terms of head coaching positions in the NFL, namely with the 49ers and the Oakland Raiders.

I think Cardinal fans can rest assured that their guy isn’t going anywhere for some time.
