To say that the Florida Gators had a problem with placekickers this season would be an understatement. Austin Hardin wasn’t getting the job done midway through the season, so they held an open tryout, at which more than 200 people showed up.
The Gators got a special player for the 2016 season when top-ranked kicker Eddy Pinerio switched his commitment from Alabama to Florida in late 2015. He arrived on campus Wednesday and he seemed to have a pretty awesome day.
He capped his first day off by booting a 62-yard field goal in the team’s practice facility.
Now that kick may have been indoors and without the screaming fans in The Swamp, but it’s still impressive. Now that Florida State kicker Roberto Aguayo has declared for the 2016 NFL Draft, maybe Pinerio will be able to take over the top guy in the state next season.
