Just earlier this week, new Georgia head coach Kirby Smart hired Alabama defensive backs coach Mel Tucker as his defensive coordinator. Now it seems as though his position in Athens may not be guaranteed.
According to reports, Tucker was contacted about the head coaching position for the the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners, which became available after Larry Coker stepped down earlier this week. There have been no reports of if the job had been offered to Tucker.
Tucker came to Tuscaloosa for the 2015 season after spending much of his career in the NFL, most notably as the defensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2009-2012 and for the Chicago Bears from 2013-2014.
Right now, I’m sure the Crimson Tide are hoping Tucker and Smart are both focused on the national championship game. That would be the best thing for them to do as they look to bring home a fourth title in the last seven years.
