St. John’s C Yankuba Sima out 4-6 with broken hand

The St. John’s Red Storm started off the season pretty well as they were 7-3 before losing six straight games. In their most recent loss, a 83-65 blowout to tenth-ranked Xavier, their big freshman center Yankuba Sima didn’t play in the second half of the game.

It looks like his absence is more serious than they would have hoped. According to College Basketball Talk, the six-foot-eleven Sima suffered a broken hand and he will miss at least a month of play.

Sima was a big part of the Red Storm offense as he averaged 8.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. He is also ranked seventh in the country with 3.1 blocked shots per game.

The Red Storm, now 0-3 in the Big East, play at Marquette on Saturday.
