Dabo Swinney expects Shaq Lawson to play tomorrow

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney expects that top pass rusher and star defensive lineman Shaq Lawson will be ready to play in tomorrow’s championship game against Alabama, according to multiple sources including ESPN’s Brett McMurphy and Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman.

Dabo on #Clemson DE Shaq Lawson: "We expect him to play. Hopefully he’ll be able to perform and play at the level we all know he can."

Lawson had a sack in first quarter of the Orange Bowl semifinal against Oklahoma, but also sprained his MCL and did not play for much of the game. Given how he led the nation in 2015 with 22.5 tackles for a loss while also racking up 10.5 sacks, it is vitally important that he not be at risk of re-injury if he suits up for the game.

Clemson are already 6.5 point underdogs going into tomorrow and if Lawson isn’t there to help put pressure on Tide quarterback Jake Coker, that number will grow.

Kickoff is slated for 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN tomorrow night, so be sure to tune in and stay tuned to Campus Sports for further updates on Lawson’s status!
