SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey will not support ACC, Big 12 title game deregulation

According to FOX Sports’ Stewart Mandel, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey has said he will not support title game deregulation for the ACC and Big 12. Last month the Big Ten filed an amendment on the legislation brought by the two conferences, allowing only division winners to play in conference championships.

Legislation put forth by the ACC and Big 12 would allow the conferences to determine their title game participants themselves. Both the Big 12 and ACC were theoretically concerned about their best team in any given year upset by an inferior team required to play from an opposite division. Such an upset could take it the conference out of playoff contention.

The Big 12 is the only Power 5 conference that does not feature a conference championship game as they don’t have the required number of members.
