Report: 49ers get permission to interview Tom Coughlin

There are a few head coaching positions in the NFL right now that a lot of people could see some big names taking. The Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers are two of those jobs.

On Sunday, it was reported that the Eagles had been given permission to interview former New York Giants’ head coach Tom Coughlin. It looks like the 49ers have been given that same privilege, as reported by NFL.com’s Connor Orr.

The 49ers just recently fired Jim Tomsula after his first season as a head coach, in which he went 5-11. The 49ers were expected to hire Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive coordinator Hue Jackson as their new head coach on Sunday, but it would seem those talks have fallen through.

This could be a very big pickup for the 49ers if they are to land Coughlin, who has had a great NFL career up to this point.
