Lionel Messi wins fifth Ballon d’Or award

Barcelona striker Lionel Messi has won the 2015 Ballon d’Or as Europe’s best soccer player. Messi was awarded the honor at FIFA’s Ballon d’Or Gala on Monday afternoon. This marks a record fifth time that Messi, 28, has won the award, which literally translates to “Golden Ball.”

Originally from Argentina, Messi has spent his entire professional career with Barcelona and has been on the main roster since 2004. Since then, he has scored 295 goals.

What makes Messi winning the 2015 Ballon d’Or all the more amazing is that he missed two months of action this season after tearing his MCL, but has still remained arguably the best player in the world.

Simply put, if there’s a player more deserving of this award than Messi, he flew a bit too low under the radar.
