$1 million gift could help Miami lure recruits

The University of Miami announced on the athletic department’s official website that a $1 million gift from the Havenick and Amdur families as well as the Magic City Casino would go towards renovating the Isadore Hecht Athletic Center on campus.

“Our family is honored to call the University of Miami family, and today’s commitment ensures that faculty, staff and students can fully enjoy the athletics facilities on campus,” Barbara Havenick said. “We remain steadfast in our investments in our higher education institutions and look forward to joining the UM family in celebrating all of its successes.”

The renovations will remodel the outside entrance and main lobby of the building, giving both a fresh new look since the building was first dedicated back in 1979.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the Havenick and Amdur families and Magic City Casino for their continued generosity and support of our dedicated student-athletes,” Director of Athletics Blake James said. “We are honored to once again have the entire Havenick and Hecht families support in building champions at University of Miami Athletics.”

Given how the school is entering a fresh new era under Miami alum and former Georgia coach Mark Richt, who has a fully clean slate as he begins his career in Coral Gables, it’s only fitting that the athletics building have a fresh new look with a clean slate of its own as he prepares to turn the program around for the better.
