The NFL has tabbed Clete Blakeman to referee Super Bowl 50, according to a report from FootballZebras.
This move is not without controversy, as Blakeman just refereed the NFC Divisional Game between the Arizona Cardinals and Green Bay Packers and became a household name when he decided to redo the overtime coin toss after the coin didn’t actually flip the first time. Arizona went on to score on the opening drive and advance to the NFC Championship Game, where they will face the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.
A bigger story of that game, arguably, was the amount of pass interference calls being tossed around left and right, but the fact remains that Blakeman does his job well and has for the past eight seasons. He has worked the postseason all but one year and now is being trusted with the game of the year.
Hopefully, everything goes off without a hitch and Super Bowl 50 doesn’t go down as a game where people discuss what could have been if not for one call.
