Gary Pinkel may not be coaching football at Missouri anymore, but he’s still getting paid a pretty penny.
Mizzou’s Board of Curators approved Thursday “initial new employment terms” for Pinkel. Late last year the university announced that move into a role as an ambassador and fundraiser for school. Pinkel will be paid nearly $1 million over the next three years — $350,000 annually for the first two years (through Dec. 31, 2017), $250,000 the final year (Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2018).
Pinkel’s role will include assisting with fundraising opportunities and donor/fan engagement, as well as serving as a general ambassador, making public appearances and advising when needed on matters related to football and other issues.
Pinkel announced he would be stepping down in mid-November. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma cancer of the blood in May 2015, unbeknownst to public.
In 15 seasons as Mizzou’s head coach, Pinkel posted a 118-73 with the Tigers.
