Michigan State AD concerned about fan behavior for Michigan night game

Michigan State AD Mark Hollis is worried that fan behavior could become a problem at a potential night game against Michigan, according to a report from MLive.

Per the report, Hollis’ concerns come from what he saw at the 2014 game against Ohio State, when the Buckeyes won a 49-37 shootout. Hollis further elaborated.

“Based on past behavior, I would be concerned …the number of bottles and the behavior at that (Ohio State) game was about as bad as I’ve ever seen at Michigan State, and that’s not an environment that we condone,” Hollis said. “The folks dropping bottles weren’t 20 year olds, they were much older.”

Michigan State is set to host Michigan in 2016 on October 29, and kickoff is currently scheduled for the daytime. If both teams are performing well, it only makes sense that the Big Ten would want a primetime game.

If that is the case, Hollis needs to lighten up. College football fandom is intense. There’s just no way around it. Fans in attendance for a night game, between the pregame brunch, pregaming and tailgating, are going to get a little wild. Some may even go a bit too far.

That being said, rather than pooh-pooh the idea of a night game just because he doesn’t approve of how some people conducted themselves, Hollis should either prohibit tailgating entirely or just accept the fact that he can’t control how people behave.
