UConn’s Warde Manuel closing in on Michigan AD role

Mark Bladschun, formerly of the Boston Globe, wrote on his independent site AJerseyGuy.com that Connecticut athletic director Warde Manuel is closing in on the open AD position at Michigan.

Back in November, Michigan’s interim athletic director Jim Hackett announced he would not be seeking the permanent gig. For the past eight weeks, Michigan has been looking for someone to fill the position.

Last week Manuel came to Ann Arbor to interview and could be named athletic director within the next few day according to Bladschun. Boston College’s Brad Bates, Arkansas’ Jeff Long and Colorado State’s Joe Parker have also been in the running.

Manuel played football at Michigan under under the legendary Bo Schembechler — just like the Wolverines’ current head football coach — and worked in the administration before moving on to Buffalo (2005-12) and UConn.
