No. 11 Michigan State broke a three-game losing streak last night with a win over No. 7 Maryland in East Lansing, and nobody appeared more excited than center Matt Costello. After checking out of the game with a minute remaining, Costello gave coach Tom Izzo a bear hug and spun him around.
Of course, Costello’s exuberance was caught on video.
This is probably the first time that Izzo has been manhandled in such a way, and he’s made multiple trips to the Final Four and even won a national championship! But it’s easy to see why Costello would be so excited, as he had 15 points and 12 rebounds to go with three blocks in the Spartans’ victory.
Just how much Michigan rises in the rankings after this win, especially after losing to Nebraska earlier in the week, remains to be seen, but a win over Maryland is still significant. Thanks to Costello and the rest of the team slowly starting to come back together, Michigan State could be priming itself for another deep tournament run later this year.
