Dallas Cowboys moving on from Greg Hardy

The Dallas Cowboys will not re-sign defensive end Greg Hardy because of excessive partying, according to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report.

This immediately puts to bed the rumors from early in the season, when team vice president Stephen Jones discussed inking Hardy, 27, to a long-term deal. Instead, he will hit the open market with his reputation even further in the toilet.

Hardy missed the first four games of the season while serving a four-game suspension under the NFL’s domestic violence policy and returned to post 35 tackles with six sacks as Dallas went 4-12 and finished last in the NFC East. Per Cole, Hardy’s conditioning got worse as the season went on due to his partying and he was also becoming a problem in the locker room. As was seen over the course of the season, Hardy often butted heads with coaches and teammates and was also, apparently, late to team meetings regularly.

Given how Hardy only played in one game in 2014 before being placed on the exempt list due to a domestic violence conviction, which was later dropped on appeal, there’s every chance that his NFL career could be over. At this point, given how he was too much of a headache for even the Cowboys, it wouldn’t be a shock if his next contract was for the league minimum.
