On Thursday, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish showed they were willing to go to great lengths to try and snag one of the best players in the country for the 2016 recruiting class. They drove an 18-wheeler down to Savannah, Georgia in hopes to sway five-star ATH Demetris Robertson.
In doing this, they may have committed an NCAA violation. ESPN reported, per WJCL ABC 22 in Savannah, that the Fighting Irish could have broken rules by trying to publicly recruit Robertson.
NCAA bylaw 13.4.3.5 prohibits “publicizing the recruitment of a potential student-athlete.” They parked their transfer truck, which was blasted with the school’s logo, in front of Robertson’s house and school, Savannah Christian Preparatory School.
Robertson had tweeted out a video of the truck parked in front of his house. He talked with the local news and said that he knew some kind of “surprise” was coming.
“They told me there would be a surprise. But I didn’t know they’d do it this big and bring the equipment truck down here, and show all the love they have for me,” he told WJCL.
Robertson is one of the best players in the country and he has yet to make his decision. If you will remember, Alabama head coach Nick Saban took a helicopter to Savannah to visit with Robertson in November.
