Damion Lee lights up scoreboard in win over UNC

No. 19 Louisville pulled off an incredible upset of No. 2 North Carolina tonight on the back of graduate transfer Damion Lee, pulling off an epic 71-65 victory at KFC Yum! Center and fighting off a late UNC surge after getting outperformed from start to finish last weekend against Virginia. In doing so, Louisville handed the Tar Heels their first ACC loss of the season and moved within one game of the top spot in the ACC

Lee led the way with 24 points and shot 8 of 12 from the field to go with four three-pointers as the Cardinals’ size and aggression was no match for the Tar Heels. His performance was a far cry from that against the Cavaliers, when he scored just six points in 28 minutes during Louisville’s 63-47 loss.

Such was not the case tonight, as Lee carried Louisville to victory and once again proved it to be one of the most underrated teams in the nation. Lee himself is averaging 17.6 points per game over Louisville’s last five contests and is shooting 51 percent from the field. After being a scoring machine for Drexel last season, he’s playing as though he was on a Power 5 team all along.

And Lee should expect another fine performance when Louisville takes on lowly Boston College on Saturday, while North Carolina must right the ship against fast and feisty Notre Dame after shooting just 34.5 percent as a unit tonight while also committing 16 turnovers.
