Denver Broncos defensive end Antonio Smith found out this morning that his father, Marty, died at age 55 due to complications from heart surgery. Smith discussed his loss briefly with Mark Kiszla of The Denver Post.
“It’s rough. I just found out this morning. It was my mom who called and told me. The call came in at about 6:30,” Smith said outside the team hotel.
Marty Smith had been in prison for over two decades and his son will remain with the Broncos to prepare for Super Bowl Sunday, but losing a parent hurts regardless of circumstances, especially at such a young age.
Campus Sports sends its deepest condolences to the Smith family in this tragic time.
