This week’s meeting of Big 12 athletic directors, with possible expansion, television network and championship game all on the agenda. After day one Thursday in Irving, Texas, however, it looks like little to no progress was made on any of those fronts.
Bob Bowlsby, commissioner of the Big 12, confirmed ADs from the conference were presented with information regarding the impact a conference championship game has on sending a Big 12 champion to the College Football Playoff. Although the Big 12 was represented in this year’s playoff by Oklahoma, last playoff they were left out.
In the end the ADs did not hold a vote, nor did they vote on expansion or creating their own TV network.
Starting their own network largely hinges on Texas disbanding its own Longhorn Network, which seems unlikely. Therefore until UT can be convinced it would be better to join a conference network, it looks like a Big 12 Network will still be but a pipe dream.
