Seton Hall transfer guard Jevon Thomas is under investigation for his alleged role in an altercation at an on-campus intramural basketball game, according to campus newspaper The Setonian.
Thomas, who is sitting out this season after transferring from Kansas State, was playing in the game and got into a bit of verbal sparring with a graduate student who was officiating the game.
According to fellow student Alex Washington, who was also playing in the game, Thomas turned the fight physical with the referee, Kevin.
“All I saw was the two of them arguing when our opponents were supposed to be taking a free throw,” Washington said. “They continued to argue and then Kevin kind of told him (Thomas) to leave but he wouldn’t. And Kevin didn’t push him but like put his hands on (Thomas’) chest to move him back. And J.T. (Thomas) shoved him (Matthews). That’s when everyone came and separated them. I thought everything was going to be fine then. But a few moments later the dude J.T. was choking him with two hands from behind the backboard too close to the glass by the weight room.”
The incident is being investigated by the Dean of Students, but this is not the reputation Thomas wanted to gain for himself before even playing a minute for the Pirates. He came to the program looking for a fresh start after not quite fitting in at Kansas State, and now he’s put himself in a position where he may need to transfer again and lose yet another year of eligibility.
