Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning spoke at last night’s team meeting and got “very emotional,” according to ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio.
“Peyton told a few jokes to lighten the mood, but then he got very emotional,” team president Joe Ellis told Paolantonio. “And so did DeMarcus [Ware]. The room was silent. It was a very emotional gathering.”
The evidence certainly appears to be piling up that Manning will indeed retire after tonight’s game, win or lose. He is the all-time leader in many significant passing categories and will turn 40 in just a few weeks. He only has one Super Bowl ring, but really has nothing left to prove as his body breaks down.
That all being said, given how Manning got emotional at a meeting on Super Bowl Eve and already told New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick “This is probably my last rodeo,” all signs certainly point to him walking away after tonight.
