Russell Wilson took the The Player’s Tribune to congratulate his Super Bowl XLVIII foe Peyton Manning on winning Super Bowl 50 Monday.
A Senior Editor for Derek Jeter’s first-hand sports news site, Wilson reflected on Manning’s career before crediting the two-time Super Bowl champion for inspiring him at Manning’s quarterback camp as a teenager.
“You inspired the kid in the green shirt,” Wilson wrote. “You inspired me to work hard. To be disciplined. To be respectful. To take notes. You inspired me to love the process. To love the sweat. To love the tears. But most of all … You inspired me to love the game.”
If Manning does decide to call it quits, he did so in the best manner possible, defeated the Panthers 24-10. Completing 13 of his 23 pass attempts for 141 yards and an interception, relying on Super Bowl MVP Von Miller and the defense to make big plays to win the Broncos the game.
Manning is now the oldest quarterback to win a Super Bowl and the first to win two Super Bowls with two different teams.
