Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck is heading into the final year of his contract, which means an extension for the former first-overall pick is right around the corner.
When talking about the pending extension, Colts owner Jim Irsay said that the franchise quarterback’s deal will be “a shocking number”.
“It’s going to be a shocking number,” he told ESPN. “Nine figures and probably a $20 million starting point per year.”
In reality, that number isn’t all too shocking. Now, if it were to end up near $30 million per year, then we’d be hitting shocking territory in terms of the contract. Everyone fully expects Luck, who led the Colts in the playoffs in each of his first three years under center, to be one of the highest players in the NFL once the new deal is signed.
I think, other than the amount mentioned above, the only way his deal would be overwhelmingly shocking is if it was with a different team.
