Former Duke Blue Devil Tyus Jones was an NCAA Tournament darling last season as he helped his team to a fifth national championship under coach Mike Krzyzewski, so much that he entered the NBA Draft and was selected 24th overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers before being sent to his hometown Minnesota Timberwolves.
Jones just happened to be on Duke’s campus to visit with his former teammates this afternoon and took the time to take a picture with freshman guard Luke Kennard, who now wears Jones’ #5 jersey and is averaging 12.5 points per game.
Jones’ rookie season has seen him primarily ride the bench in Minnesota while also spending some time in the D-League, but that still doesn’t take away from how effective he was both as a shooter and a pest in last year’s big dance. Without him, there’s no way Duke could have come together and rocked the house the way they did.
It just goes to show that though a fine college player may turn pro and enjoy varying degrees of success there, they should always cherish their college days.
