Manny Pacquiao apologizes for homophobic comments

Professional boxer Manny Pacquiao is one of the best fighters in the world and the second-highest paid athlete across the globe behind rival boxer Floyd Mayweather. He is also a very religious person, so it’s not a surprise that he is against gay marriage.

Despite him being one of the most loved people in the world, it doesn’t keep him from getting backlash for making inappropriate comments. He is experiencing just that after he made homophobic comments to a television station in Phillipines.

“It’s common sense. Do you see animals mating with the same sex? Animals are better because they can distinguish male from female,” he told the television station.

“If men mate with men and women mate with women, they are worse than animals.

Gay marriage is banned in Pacquiao’s home country as more than 80 percent of the 100 million people are Catholic, which rejects homosexuality. He believed that jumping on the anti-gay train would help bolster his political support in the country.

When you are as big of a star as Pacquiao is, you can’t make these comments. He has since taken to Instagram to apologize.

People will not forget what he said for some time, but at least he is owning up to his mistakes. This is more than some others can say for themselves.
