One of the biggest upsets in all of sports during 2015 was when then-undefeated UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey lost to Holly Holm at UFC 193 in November by knockout. Rousey essentially went into hiding after the loss and has only recently began making public appearances again.
This week, Rousey appeared on “Ellen” and talked publicly about the upset loss for the first time. She went into detail about the aftermath of her loss and got emotional when she said that she even had suicidal thoughts.
“I was sitting in the corner and I was like what am I anymore if I’m not this? I was literally sitting there and like thinking about killing myself in that exact second,” Rousey revealed. “I’m like ‘I’m nothing,’ I’m like what do I do anymore? And no one gives a s–t about me anymore without this.”
She then talked about how she was able to get out of her slump with the help of her boyfriend, fellow UFC star Travis Browne. She said that she wanted to stay alive for him because she eventually wanted to “have his babies.”
“To be honest, I looked up and I saw my man Travis (Browne) was standing there and I looked up at him and I was like I need to have his babies, I need to stay alive. Really that was it,” Rousey said.
You can watch the full interview below, but warning, it is certainly a tear-jerker.
Rousey is hoping to return to the Octagon very soon and President Dana White expects to see her get back into the ring in November to possibly face the winner of the Holm and Miesha Tate fight at UFC 196 in March.
