Miami TE Jerome Washington announces transfer

On Wednesday, the Miami Hurricanes announced that rising sophomore tight end Jerome Washington will be transferring.

“Jerome is a wonderful young man and I wish him the very best with his future endeavors,” said head coach Mark Richt in a statement. “I fully support his decision to step away from football and I look forward to watching his career path unfold.”

When asked about the his decision to transfer Washington said, “playing football at the University of Miami was a wonderful experience but at this time I feel it is in my best interest to step away from the game.”

Washington arrived to Miami by way of Mercer Community College and appeared in 9 games last season but did not record a catch.

Even though he is walking away from the program, Washington still has great love for the Hurricanes adding, “I can’t thank this institution enough for allowing me the opportunity to play college football at the highest level.”
