Ezekiel Elliott will run 40, sets goal in 4.4-4.5 range

Ohio State running back Ezekiel Elliott told reporters today at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis that he would indeed run the 40-yard dash and that his goal was to finish in the 4.4-4.5 seconds range.

Elliott is probably the only running back at the combine with a shot at being taken in the first round of April’s NFL Draft, and a strong 40 time is imperative if he is to achieve that goal. His personal best 40 yard dash is 4.32 seconds, per nfldraftscout.com, so aiming for something in the 4.4-4.5 range is respectable for someone of his 6-foot-1, 225 pound frame.

It also helps that Elliott is just fast in general. Keep in mind that in the 2014 Sugar Bowl, he pulled off an epic 85-yard touchdown run against a dangerous Alabama defense, outrunning every member of the Crimson Tide along the way. For someone to outrun an SEC defense like that, they must truly be something special.
