Middlebury College bans energy drinks for insane reason

Some of you have probably never heard of Middlebury College, a small liberal arts school in Vermont with an enrollment of just over 2,500. Well, the school is in the news and for a reason that some may consider hilarious.

Per a report from Cosmopolitan, Middlebury has banned energy drinks from campus due to, are you ready for this, “high risk sexual activity.”

Now, granted, the ban is not without merit. Middlebury higher-ups have said that the drinks have led to “problematic behavior” amongst the students, meaning that they’re being mixed with alcohol. Thus, since Red Bull and vodka is a thing, so what?

But here’s the kicker. A 2012 study at the University of Buffalo linked mixing alcohol with energy drinks to CASUAL sex, not necessarily high risk sex.

Long story short, it seems that Middlebury doesn’t trust its students to make the right decisions when under the influence of caffeine and alcohol at the same time. Moreover, how is this rule going to be enforced? If college life is anything like it was when I went to school, students will just pick up the energy drinks at the store and keep them in their personal mini-fridges.

In which case, your move, Middlebury.
