Carson Wentz downplays jump from FCS to NFL

One of the top quarterback prospects in the 2016 NFL Draft class is Carson Wentz. However, because Wentz played for the North Dakota State Bison at the FCS level, there have been some concerns about his ability to transition to the next level with such a drastic leap in competition.

For Wentz, that is a non-issue.

Wentz discussed the task he has ahead, but he downplayed any cause for concern when speaking to Peter King of MMQB.com.

“It’s just football. Everything that comes with the game, I think I will handle it extremely easily,” Wentz said. “I don’t let a lot of that outside stuff bother me. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion about the jump in competition. Even at North Dakota State, football is a big deal. Now I understand it is going to be ramped up times five. But I’ve never let outside anything distract me or make me press to do better or make me get down in the dumps because they are saying something that really bothers me.

“I stay focused on what I can control and just be the best I can be.”

You have to appreciate those comments from Wentz.

Not only does it show that he is focused on becoming the best quarterback he can be, he is not going to let any negativity get to him.

Wentz also has players like Joe Flacco and Tony Romo — both who played at FCS schools — to look up to. If they can transition to the NFL and find such great success, there is no reason to believe Wentz won’t be able to do the same.
