It’s defensive back day at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis today and Auburn’s Jonathan Jones did an excellent job in upping his draft stock during the 40 yard dash drill.
As can be seen in the video below, Jones literally blazed through the drill and ran 40 yards in an eye-popping 4.28 seconds, easily the best of the group.

A former three-star recruit from western Georgia, Jones proved to be an excellent shutdown corner in four years at Auburn while also proving effective in the tackling department. He left school with 129 tackles, seven interceptions, 24 pass breakups and even 3.5 sacks to his name, so his overall skill set is there.
And now Jones has proven that he has the speed to keep up with the NFL’s best receivers, something that scouts in attendance today surely love to see in making their assessments. Come April, it’s going to be interesting to see where Jones falls among the rest of the corners in the class.
