As expected, the Denver Broncos have used the exclusive franchise tag on linebacker and reigning Super Bowl MVP Von Miller.
As a result, Miller’s 2016 salary will be the average of the five best-paid linebackers in the NFL, so the actual value won’t be known for a while. That is, that will be the case if Miller and the Broncos don’t agree to a long-term deal before the July 15 deadline.
Regardless of what happens with Miller’s deal, there’s no denying that he deserves the money he’ll be getting paid. Since being drafted second overall out of Texas A&M in 2011, Miller has posted 260 tackles with 16 forced fumbles, 60 sacks and even 10 passes defended. In Denver’s 24-10 victory over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50, Miller had six total tackles with 2.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles that led to Denver scoring.
Simply put, there was no way that Miller was leaving the Mile High City, so Denver fans should get accordingly excited.
