Colorado backup QB Cade Apsay one of two dismissed from team

Colorado backup quarterback Cade Apsay is one of two Buffs players that was recently dismissed from the program, according to an announcement from coach Mike MacIntyre that was reported by Brian Howell of The Denver Post.

Apsay was dismissed along with safety Evan White and no reason was given other than that both violated team rules. This was the second time Apsay has been in trouble, with him also having been suspended for the first two games of last season due to rules violations.

And Apsay’s dismissal complicates things at quarterback for Colorado. Starter Sefo Liufau is still recovering from a broken foot and may not be available for the start of the 2016 season, and Texas Tech transfer Davis Webb won’t arrive until after spring practices are over. That leaves senior Jordan Gehrke and redshirt freshman Steven Montez as the only healthy quarterbacks on the roster.

Given how Colorado went 4-9 (1-8 Pac-12) in 2015 and is looking for its first winning season since 2005, this dismissal’s timing could not be worse.
