After plenty of rumblings throughout the mixed martial arts community, it was reported on Wednesday that MMA legend Wanderlei Silva has agreed to a multi-fight deal with Bellator MMA, who has been scooping up former legends of the sport in recent years.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was first to report the news.
After initially receiving a lifetime ban from the Nevada Athletic Commission, the decision was overturned and Silva can now re-apply for his license in 2017. Technically, Silva would be able to fight outside of Nevada, but it would be difficult to obtain a license.
So, unless Bellator allows Silva to fight overseas with a different promotion, it is unlikely we will see “The Axe Murderer” back in the cage until next year.
Silva (35-12-1) has not fought since 2013, when he recorded a knockout victory over Brian Stann.
