Facebook, Amazon and Verizon want to stream NFL games

After the success of the NFL on Yahoo! last season, the league is looking into selling online rights to broadcast the games.

The league has a contract with NBC, CBS and NFL Network to broadcast Thursday Night Football on television, but they also want to sell the full TNF package to a company wanting to stream it online.

According to re/code, three companies have shown serious interest in acquiring the online broadcast rights for the games. Facebook, Amazon and Verizon have all shown interest in acquiring the games. Right now, Verizon is the only company of the three with experience broadcast NFL games as it holds the rights to Sunday and Monday games.

Yahoo!, which paid $20 million to broadcast the game from London between the Buffalo Bills and Jacksonville Jaguars last year, may no longer be interested despite submitting the preliminary paperwork for bidding. The other company mentioned, Apple, doesn’t appear to be interested at all.

NFL owners will meet on March 20, and a decision regarding online streaming rights could be finalized around then.
