The Carolina Panthers may pursue Pro Bowl safety Eric Weddle in free agency, according to Joseph Person of The Charlotte Observer.
Person remarked that since the contracts of Kurt Coleman and Roman Harper are expiring, Weddle could be considered a top target for the Panthers. Moreover, at age 31, he’s looking to win a Super Bowl and Carolina just appeared in Super Bowl 50, even if it was a 24-10 loss to the Denver Broncos.
A former second-round pick out of Utah, Weddle has made three Pro Bowls and established himself as one of the top safeties in the NFL in 10 seasons, all spent with the San Diego Chargers. He has 682 tackles, 71 pass breakups, 19 interceptions and even 6.5 sacks to his name and could be an excellent fit in Carolina’s system.
On top of that, Carolina’s defense was one of the most feared in the NFL last season, ranking sixth in total defense.
In adding Weddle, Carolina’s defense would become all the stronger, so stay tuned to Campus Sports for any and all NFL free agency updates!
