One minute UAB is in the process of shutting down its football program, the next they’re reviving it. And the Sons of UAB Alumni football game shows why reviving the program was a good idea.
With current Carolina Panther Joe Webb throwing the game winning touchdown to four-time Pro Bowler and current NFL free agent Roddy White, you see that talent does walk through the UAB campus.
White spent four years at UAB, pulling in 163 catches for 3,112 yards and 26 touchdowns before being drafted by the Atlanta Falcons in 2005. Webb, meanwhile, threw for 5,771 yards and 37 touchdowns while also adding 2,774 yards and 24 touchdowns on the ground. Despite excelling as a dual-threat quarterback, he slipped to the sixth round and has made a career as an NFL backup.
Hopefully more Webbs and Whites are in the pipeline for the UAB program as they are clearly two beloved alumni.
