Some crummy news for gaming fans to start the week as Microsoft has announced that it is closing Lionhead Studios, and that Fable Legends has been cancelled.
“After much consideration we have decided to cease development on Fable Legends, and are in discussions with employees about the proposed closure of Lionhead Studios in the UK,” the company said in a statement. “Additionally, we will close Press Play Studios in Denmark, and sunset development on Project Knoxville.”
Fable Legends was announced in 2014, and was expected to be launched later this year. The game was set to feature 4 v 1 multiplayer, cross-platform play between the PC and Xbox One as well as asymmetrical play.
With the studio being shut down, many developers are going to be looking for work. Hopefully the company can find a way to keep people within the company, which appears to be the plan.
“We are committed to working closely with those affected by today’s news to find them new opportunities at Xbox, or partnering with the broader development community to help place them in jobs elsewhere in the games industry should they desire.”
