Class of 2016 five-star shooting guard Rawle Alkins appeared on ESPN last night and announced via the tie he was wearing that he would be committing to Sean Miller and the Arizona Wildcats.
CBS Sports’ Will Brinson took to Twitter to post a screenshot of Alkins’ announcement.
Alkins, who is originally from Queens, New York and currently attends Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh, North Carolina, chose Arizona over St. John’s and UNLV.
On top of those three, he also had offers from the Kentucky Wildcats, Kansas Jayhawks, N.C. State Wolfpack, Louisville Cardinals, Indiana Hoosiers and North Carolina Tar Heels.
But Alkins will take his scoring abilities to the desert and play in Miller’s fast-paced offense. He is excellent at driving the lane and being aggressive, not to mention playing defense, but will need to improve his mid and long-range shooting prior to stepping on the court for the Wildcats. He’s built for the 2 at 6-foot-4, 200 pounds and unless he develops something of an outside shot, his game will become flat.
