Cornell forward Xavier Eaglin was arrested on Sunday and charged with rape, strangulation, and sexual assault according to The Cornell Daily Sun.
A true freshman from the Houston area, Eaglin was arraigned on the charges Monday and is being held on $100,000 bond, with a preliminary hearing set to take place on Friday. He has primarily ben a benchwarmer this season and has played seven minutes across nine games.
And the worst of it is that Eaglin is likely looking at a flat-out dismissal from the team and the university, depending on how the situation plays out. His arrest comes a month after Yale abruptly expelled guard Jack Montague for reasons that caused public outcry from fans, but signs around Yale’s campus saying “Stop supporting a rapist” have fueled speculation.
In the case of Eaglin, rape is not a charge to be taken lightly under any circumstances and is a serious crime. Barring this being a case of mistaken identity, his future with the Big Red is not looking good at all.
