Free agent running back Matt Forte is drawing interest from the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins, according to a tweet from NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport.
Forte was also linked to the Green Bay Packers yesterday, but the Jets and the Dolphins could prove to be attractive landing spots for him once he decides where to continue his career. New York has a hole at running back now that Chris Ivory has signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars, and Miami losing Lamar Miller to the Houston Texans is all but a certainty.
It should also be noted that Miami’s new head coach is Adam Gase, who coached Forte while serving as the Chicago Bears’ offensive coordinator last season. Injuries limited Forte to 13 games and 898 rush yards and four touchdowns last season, but he also had 44 catches for 389 yards and three scores playing in Gase’s spread offense.
Moreover, his low production can be attributed to a weak Bears offensive line.
The Jets also run a spread offense so at this point, it’s all a matter of Forte picking which team he feels is the best for him. Either way, whichever team he picks, they’ll be lucky to have his versatility in their backfield.
