Brent Grimes signs with Buccaneers

Veteran cornerback Brent Grimes has signed a two-year deal with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Per NFL Network’s Rand Getlin, the deal is worth $16.5 million.

Grimes, 32, spent last season with the Miami Dolphins and posted 49 tackles with four interceptions before being cut two days ago. In a nine-year career spent with the Dolphins and Atlanta Falcons, Grimes has 420 tackles and 26 interceptions to go with four career Pro Bowl selections.

And now Grimes will head to a Tampa Bay team that could really use some help in the secondary. The Bucs ranked 10th in the NFL in total defense last year, but were 17th in receiving defense due to inconsistent play from Alterraun Verner and the rest of the motley crew that made up Tampa Bay’s defensive backs.

Just what role Grimes will play in 2016 remains to be seen, but Tampa Bay fans should be optimistic solely because he was able to perform at a high level last year in spite of his age. Simply put, the Bucs made a great move in adding Brent Grimes.
