Ole Miss defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche is one of the more intriguing and polarizing names in this year’s NFL Draft class, but one scout isn’t sold on him at all. Speaking to Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller, one team’s general manager implied that Nkemdiche may not even be a first round pick anymore.
“Take [Robert] Nkemdiche out of your mock drafts. No one is that stupid,” the GM said.
There’s no doubt that Nkemdiche has raised his fair share of red flags over the past few months. Despite a great deal of talent, he drew more attention in 2015 for his actions off the field as opposed to on it. At the close of the regular season, he fell out of a four-story hotel window and miraculously walked away with some bumps and bruises. He was later arrested for drug possession and suspended from the Sugar Bowl.
Thus, it’s easy to see why some teams would shy away from drafting him in the first round or at all.
But the fact remains that Robert Nkemdiche probably has one of the highest ceilings out of anyone in the draft this year. He was the No. 1 overall recruit in the Class of 2013 and had 81 tackles (16 for a loss) and six sacks in three years with the Rebels. Nkemdiche also had three offensive touchdowns with Ole Miss.
The talent is definitely there. It’s just a matter of teams deciding whether Nkemdiche is worth the risk.
